Atkinson
If you enjoy country living, then you will love Atkinson!  The location is ideal removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet within easy driving distance of several metropolitan centers.  Atkinson also offers numerous outdoor activities.  The village is surrounded by strip-mine lakes formed by strip-mining coal in the area for 50 years, although there has been no mining activity since 1965.  The dozens of clean, clear lakes are well-stocked with all types of game fish.  Atkinson also has a beautiful, spacious park with playground equipment and restroom facilities.  The school system has kept pace with the growing population, and local students annually ran among the best in the state scholastically.  Atkinson always has a busy schedule of other activities, such as potluck suppers, card parties, dances and ice cream socials.

Annawan
Annawan was named by the surveyors after a Winnebago chief named Annawan.  The village is the farthest eastern community in the county on I-80 and offers industrial and commercial sites.  It boasts one of the finest motels, banquet and meeting facilities in the area.  The schools are academically among the best annually in the state.  With a population of 868, Annawan offers a small-town lifestyle to escape the fast-paced city life.

Cambridge
September 2006 - Cambridge Elementary was recently awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award!  Cambridge was one of 15 Illinois schools given this award.  According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Blue Ribbon schools are academically superior or show dramatic gains in student achievement.

Cambridge was founded in 1843 when the Rev. Ithamar Pillsbury deeded parts of two 4-acre lots to the Board of County Commissioners.  Judge Tillson was the one who suggested the name Cambridge for the new town.  Cambridge is the county seat and home of the Henry County Courthouse.  The stately courthouse was built in 1878-1880 and houses the courtrooms, county offices and an excellent set of county records.  The main courtroom is especially noteworthy as the ceiling is decorated with murals depicting the principal communities of the county.  Cambridge is also home to the Sheriff's Department including the county jail as well as the Henry County Fairgrounds.  It has great schools which have a lot of parental support.  It also boasts one of the largest home manufacturers in the state.

Andover
The first community in Henry County, Andover was founded in 1835 by Rev. Ithamar Pillsbury, a Presbyterian Minister.  It was patterned after New Haven, Connecticut as a seat of learning, religion and commerce.  The town is full of Swedish history and is home to the famous Jenny Lind Chapel, where some of the first Lutherans in America landed.  There are museums full of history and the historic Andover Inn offers great home-cooked meals.

Orion
Founded by Charles Wesley Dean and plotted in 1853, Orion is named for the constellation.  Orion boasts one of the finest small town festivals in Illinois, the Orion Fall Festival, and has a number of attractions throughout the year including a major car show.  It is the home of the Orion School District and a new $9 million Middle School.  It is also the home of one of the largest banks and car dealerships in Henry County.  In addition, the village offers nice parks and vaious recreational opportunities, as well as great restaurants.
